Sweet Childhood forever

These Thoughts were penned down on 22nd June, 2010 after a gist with a senior friend. Enjoy.

Is it not interesting to be a child? I have always thought it’s very interesting to be a child and enjoy all the funs. Everyone meets your needs. You don’t know how needs are met. Needs just get met!!! Responsibilities are little or nothing. You can fall without feeling ashamed. You utter things as they come to your mind! You sleep wherever it catches you. It's a time when everything holds an interest and an object is a source of potential exploration and fun! In children's world, holiday is the best, Christmas is the sweetest and parents are the almighty; ever-present genies that grants wishes. Aren’t children lucky?

These thoughts strolled on my mind after buying three-N100 recharge cards for my niece and nephews. My niece exclaimed, "Thank you Aunty; isn’t it nicer to be an adult and be working without having to go to school and be able to afford recharge cards!” This just exposed my mind to the irony of life. Here I am, an adult overwhelmed with the responsibilities of being an adult; here is my little niece wanting to be an adult. As an adult in the century when you have to be on your toes to live the life you desired. It is a world where genies and fairies do not exist. It’s a world where dream remains wishful thinking unless it’s backed by action.

The scenario described above made me realize that there's time for everything-- A time to be born and a time to die. A time to laugh, a time to cry; a time to be a child, a time to be an adult! A time to think about wants, a time to balance wants and needs. All phases of life can be fun. Growing up into adulthood can be fun. It all depends on the way we take each phase of life, lessons learnt along, experiences garnered along and support from kiths and kins. The dreams of our childhood can be achieved because they show a glimpse into our heart, love and passion.

Development of a child lies in the hand of parents and guardians. We are the angel that can guide them through the phases of life, establish them, make them believe in themselves and be ready to take on the world with spring in their steps and the dreams in their hearts. With the immense power lying with us to steer the course of this children, often times we are like the ostrich that destroys its own egg. Let's help them by guiding them and giving them all the funs and learning that that can make them better citizens, the very future we would be proud of! Let's stop every form of abuse and molestations that can impair the childhood of these children. Let’s make our country great to make it a safe place for them to live, grow and flourish. Let’s shun corruption and other vices that can destroy the future. Let's halt any process that might want to disrupt their growth.

Still thinking about what happens to an adult that feels the childhood is gone and stark reality is staring him/her in the face. How do we solve the problem of paradise lost or the childhood lost? What happens to an adult that never got the opportunity to be childish or child-like? Well, childishness never fits an adult, yet to see one it fits. But child-likeness fits all, Makes one adorable. I will tell you: believe in your uniqueness and the innate power within you. Believe in your dream, it will make the child in you come out. Pursue your dream, it will make adulthood sweet. Unclog your mind, never stop asking question, never stop learning, lend a helping hand, raise your eyes to sun, love, smile, sing a silly song, pursue your dream, 'cause; this child is an adult. Doing this you can look nostalgically, at the childhood you created and future you designed.
